Not many companies can claim to be as innovative as Case Equipment. Currently split into agricultural and construction divisions under the CNH Industrial Company, their roots can be traced back to Racine, WI in 1842. That is the year Jerome Increase Case founded Racine Threshing Machine Works and improved the existing threshing machines to get 10 times more wheat from the grains.

While Case has not always been an early adopter of technology, they have been very involved in developing both construction and agriculture machines. Their construction division focused primarily on the construction of roads. Machines like backhoes, excavators, and skid steers were introduced from 1957-69 but their rich history in road construction started in 1869 when they made their first portable steam engine. By 1912, Case offered a complete line of manufactured road-building equipment.
On the agriculture side, Case would eventually merge with International Harvester in 1985. While case produced the thresher initially and a few tractor models, Cyrus McCormick of Chicago, IL founded the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company in 1847, producing mechanical reapers. McCormick merged with four other small brands in 1902 to become International Harvester. The merger became successful and left many recognizable models behind, such as the 1923 Farmall and the 1943 spindle cotton picker.
After the 1985 merger, Case operated as Case CE and Case IH for Construction Equipment and International Harvest respectively. In 1999, the company was purchased by Fiat. Under the Fiat brand, the business operations were merged with New Holland to create CNH Industrial. Recently, they’ve announced a program to study autonomous technology in the field alongside Bolthouse Farms which displays their commitment to understanding and improving technology in the industry.
